About Reglazing

"Glaze" is the traditional material used on various forms of kiln cured ceramics, porcelains and clays which gives the finished glassy look. It hardens and seals the surface to help prevent staining and allows the object to be easily cleaned while maintaining a durable and bright surface and coloration.

"Reglazing" is a term that has largely come from the customers of the industry. When things like showers, bathtubs and counters become worn the surfaces can start to take on a stained or dull look. "Reglazing" allows us to create a like-new surface without having to remove fixtures from their installed location. To restore the original glaze would often be more costly or intensive than replacing the fixture with something new. However, thanks to modern chemistry, there are a myriad of top-coats that can be applied to refurbish almost any kitchen or bathroom surface. As the industry has grown, there have even been many kits that manufacturers have created for the true Do-It-Yourself people out there. But, just like automotive paint or TV repair, reglazing is something best left to experienced professionals.

These top-coats are specially designed to be as hard and durable as possible, while maintaining the luster of a glass-like surface. They are available in many solid colors, and can even be done in speckled "stone-like" finishes as well. This means that these top-coats are not only good for brightening up or restoring an old kitchen or bathroom, but they can also be used much more easily to remodel and change the look without having to replace much of what you otherwise would!

As our lives and society continue to change around us, reglazing has become the fastest, most cost-effective way to make your kitchen and bathroom surfaces look new.

Fast: With as little as 2 hours of having a technician on-site, and cure times as short as 24-hours, you can fully restore your counters, bathtubs, showers, enclosures or sinks to a "like-new" appearance! As a resident this means that you only lose your bathroom for 1 day, and for a manager this means that you can get a new tenant into an apartment in a much shorter time than when doing an entire remodel.

Cost-effective: According to HomeAdvisor, a small bathroom remodel in Los Angeles in 2020 will cost no less than $3,500 when "only updating the essentials." Reglazing offers a savings of over 60% or more on this and doesn't require that you sacrifice the use of a restroom or apartment for a whole week!

Recycling & Sustainability

As we all become more conscientious about what our role is in how we care for our planet, recycling is more important than ever. According to the US EPA, in 2018 the US produced 600 million tons of construction & demolition debris, and demolition accounted for 90% of that (540 million tons)! Nearly 25% of all demolition waste ends up in landfills further destroying our beautiful landscapes and adding to the waste burden we already have to deal with.

According to a survey in 2019, 40% of the approximately 122 million home owners is the US plan on remodeling their home in the next 2 years. If we come together and recycle rather than remodeling our kitchens and bathrooms, we could prevent millions of tons of waste from being thrown into our local landfills!

No only are landfills unsightly, but they also take large acreage away from other urban, sub-urban or natural uses and draw the wildlife in. While nothing is wrong with throwing away something biodegradable, all the food waste that ends up in our landfills attracts many birds and mammals, and in SoCal, a lot of that may end up making its way into our beautiful oceans.

The point is, while we may not be able to cause effective change in many areas that affect our planet, its climate and our lives without dramatic technological changes, we can control our waste. We can reduce, reuse and recycle - especially when we're talking about remodeling our homes.
